Abolish the death penalty Death penalty or capital punishment is the practice of executing someone as punishment for a particular crime after an appropriate judicial process. It is used as punishment for specific serious types of murder, but in some countries for adultery, rape, treason, drugs, terrorism, and other serious types of fraud. The question of whether the death penalty is effective or not is a controversial issue. There are people who support the death penalty, while others want it to be abolished. Furthermore, there are some people who support the death penalty, but only in certain cases. According to abolitionists, the death penalty is nothing more than an act of violence. Others believe it can be used to prevent future crimes. Although the death penalty is a reasonable punishment, I am against it because it is another type of murder that constitutes a cruel act. I firmly believe that a person who commits a crime should not be punished with the death penalty. One of the main ideas of using the death penalty is to serve as an example to others. The death penalty sends the message to victims' families that the justice system is there to help them and not the accused people who may also be innocent. The government is implementing the death penalty to make people understand that the justice system is a supporter of revenge. However, many criminologists argue that the death penalty is not a deterrent against capital crimes. Consequently we can say that if it does not fulfill its basic functions, it could be effective. People believe that the death penalty decreases crime because people fear nothing but death. They think that by sentencing criminals to death we can save many lives and we can make other criminals feel fear to prevent future crimes. While... middle of paper... the th sentence, the company is also guilty of committing murder. Therefore, imprisonment is a better punishment for criminals. Works CitedNCADP.org. (2013, December 3).
