Hamlet, one of the most complex and dramatic characters to ever grace the theatre, is known as the dejected prince who captivates the audience with his elegant intensity throughout the harmony of the acts. The intricate and profound life of Hamlet is by far the most popular and powerful work Shakespeare ever created. The story begins on a dark winter night on the ramparts of Elsinore Castle in Denmark, when a ghost appears, resembling the late King Hamlet. Claudius overthrew the throne by killing King Hamlet and marrying his brother's wife Gertrude. The apparition later spoke to Hamlet and showed his son that his uncle Claudius had killed him by slipping poison through his ear and declared that Hamlet must avenge his death. A group of actors traveling through Denmark reenact his father's murder. Hamlet acted as if he had gone mad and later that night goes to talk to his mother to confront her about his sins of incest that he committed which lead to the death of the nosy Polonius. In the aftermath of Polonius' death, Ophelia goes mad with grief and sorrow and commits suicide by drowning herself in the river. Hamlet is told to leave the country and bravely interrupts a mission set up by Claudius so that he will be killed upon arrival in England. A sword fight breaks out between the men which later leads to the death of the entire royal family. At this moment Fortinbras, the prince of Norway, sees the family dead on the floor and decides to take power over the kingdom for himself. Hamlet is portrayed throughout the play as a hero and a villain. In my opinion, without this element of contradiction with his own actions, Hamlet's character could not be represented. Haml...... in the center of the sheet......the young portrait must communicate with two sides of himself; one side shows his crazy behavior towards his whole family, the other side determines his thinking to do good or bad based on what he saw. Hamlet can be seen as a hero or a villain among the numerous examples given in the context of this article. Hamlet, the prince of Denmark, appears to be a man of radical contradictions, hasty but alert in nature, tender but vicious at heart, mad but diligently intelligent. We will forever try to interpret the Shakespearean meaning and true philosophy of Hamlet's story. However, the real question will continually be asked: Is Hamlet a sinner or a saint? Perhaps Hamlet is just a young man trapped in a world with his questioning reasoning about life in search of to be or not to be, the underlying question remaining..
