Body language is nonverbal communication in which your body physically reveals unexpressed, usually subconscious, feelings and intentions. Body language is expressed through eye movements, facial expressions, body postures and gestures. It plays a role in how humans judge you during communication or first meeting, which is what we do when we see a characteristic that we would not tolerate possessing or envy the person that makes you find fault with that person. Body language also indicates a person's mood; whether they are alert/attentive, bored, interested or nervous. Before language was developed, cavemen and other early ancestors used body gestures to communicate and judged others' body postures and voices to guess what they wanted to convey. Body language reflects who we are. One of the reasons television was so innovative is because radio couldn't show facial expressions and body language. In 1960 Kennedy and Nixon had a debate. Nixon was sweating and looked nervous, while Kennedy was wearing makeup and looking straight at the camera to show conviction. Those who listened to the debates on the radio believed that Nixon had won and those who watched him on television thought the opposite. After that event, nonverbal communication was taken more seriously. Body gestures and postures are classified into four types of movements:Emblems. They are gestures that replace words or sentences and are used in sign language. Raising a hand to say enough, for example, is one of the universally known emblems. When we speak, our body sometimes accompanies actions with words such as shaking our head when we say no or patting ourselves on the forehead when we make mistakes. Illustrators emphasize verbal thoughts and messages. If a person who uses......half of the card......lizes. Even when you try to hide microexpressions, they still show one-fifteenth to one-twentieth and more training is needed to recognize and identify them. One of the most basic and powerful body languages is to cross our arms to create a barrier and shield behind which we can think and protect ourselves. It could be because of the weather, anger, boredom or insecurity. Body language can also indicate that you are hiding a secret. Hands behind the back indicate that the person has withheld information. Humans like to see their hands and hiding them is used to lie and deceive. Works CitedJ.
