PURPOSE STATEMENT Safe but not secure, it's a time we live in. However, in today's age of information and digital media, vulnerabilities will arise. Valuable possessions cannot be hidden forever, nor can any lock prevent their theft. At some point, due to existing vulnerabilities in our system, secrets and our data will be accidentally revealed or actively discovered or unintentionally disclosed by someone we trust. My passion for the security of the IT environment pushes me intensely to research and delve into defects and vulnerabilities and to find their infallible remedies. My interaction with computers dates back to the time when I was very young and my father, a doctor in the army, was suddenly sent overseas to the Middle East, leaving me behind his desktop PC. Owning a Desktop in those days was a novelty in India and this independence had allowed me to tinker with the computer in every way possible. Operating systems such as MS-DOS 6 and Windows 98 were in vogue then. Initially, I installed and optimized various applications. Eventually, I moved on to major system modifications like Win98 lite (which killed Explorer) and alternative shells, like litestep, aston, emerge, and geoshell (and later sharpE). My interest in security intensified as I installed multiple antiviruses and firewalls and tried to make them work together. What intrigued me was that some programs like Panda Antivirus had unencrypted databases and looked like viruses to other antivirus applications! In this regard I have used several other intrusion prevention tools, such as Process Guard, RegDefend and SandboxIE. Being interested in computer science, and in particular the cybersecurity game "Spy vs Spy", I spent most... paper ......solved with the projects of ISPIA and ICOREIS research laboratories. I would like to profitably learn from Professor Michael Locasto's experience as my current university project: Smart Disk Imaging fits perfectly with his approach to studying security in computer systems. Good research labs, combined with an enviable faculty and diverse academic clubs, make the University of Calgary an inevitable choice for me. Therefore, I will only enroll in your Master's program in security and no other, as I firmly believe that it would push me into the wonderful world of research and academics. I come from a humble background, but I have a dream to excel in computer science academia, I will strive to work very hard and let my research speak for itself. If my Professors deem it appropriate, I can ask to be considered for any form of financial support to materialize my dreams.
