While both alcoholism and child abuse are prevalent problems in today's society, alcohol is a more prevalent problem. The Glass Castle clearly illustrates the reality of the effects when we adults abuse our children and the everlasting effects it has on our children's children; domino effect if necessary, that is, a vicious circle from which it is difficult to free oneself. In any case, perhaps alcoholism and child abuse go together like fuel and fire, when both combined and united, both are extremely combustible and deadly. Therefore, as we delve into the effects of alcoholism and child abuse, we will analyze how people's lives are affected socially, emotionally, physically, psychologically and economically by relating our personal effects to successfully analyze a topic controversial.Rex Walls, Jeanette's father, was rational to the core when it came to logic, an inventor, and a rather intelligent being, but he did not have the ability to sustain an economic position to provide for his family. His mother, Erma Ruth, sexually abused him as a child, which later in life led to alcohol abuse, because she questioned his masculinity and confidence. Clearly his mother's actions have affected him psychologically throughout his life, leaving him to deal with such shame through the only way to ease his pain is through alcohol. But to what extent has this man lost awareness that his problem was not the molestation he suffered as a child, but his personal needs, since the alcoholic has become the real problem? He never sought therapy to sober up, which in turn took its toll on his family. “A couple of months after dad lost his job, he came home with a bag of groceries” (p. 68), due to his alcoholism he was unable to sustain a stable job that… middle of paper. .. ....until the end of his first sixty years. That's why I respect Rex's decisions in the way he led his life, and Jeannette, although her glass castle was an illusion, it was an illusion that he did his best to make a reality, and surely that's what matters in the end we gave our best. effort, and that's what Rex did for his family!Primary Source: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls pages (68, 112, 280, 180-181, 225, 212-213)Secondary Sources:- The Journal of the Louisiana State Medical Society of Louisiana State Medical Society- Interactive Journaling as a Brief Intervention for Level II DUI and DWI Offenders by Amy Mary Scheck, Norman G.
