The Power of Time In George Orwell's Animal Farm, the farm animals chase away their cruel owner to gain independence. After this rebellion, the pigs, being naturally intelligent, take on the role of leaders. The pigs are able to maintain their rule because they take advantage of the animals' horrible memory and lie about the past to take advantage of it and support a better government for the future. The pigs take advantage of the animals' inability to understand what will make it appear that Napoleon was planning Snowball's exile. When Snowball and Napoleon argue about whether or not to build the windmill, Napoleon scares Snowball and takes control. After Snowball was exiled due to the windmill argument, Squealer privately explained to the other animals that Napoleon had never actually opposed the windmill... the plan that Snowball had drawn on the floor. .. had actually been stolen from Napoleon's papers.
