Violated. Trapped. Fear. These are the feelings of young victims of cyberbullying. Bullying has evolved into much more than just face-to-face interactions. Now, children cannot escape torture when leaving social situations. The torment follows them home and has turned into words filled with hatred and animosity. Behind computer screens, oppressors can remain anonymous, creating fear of the unknown. Nameless and unidentified, these online bullies can strike terror into the hearts of those being harassed. These types of bullies, through the Internet, bully children who choose to remain indifferent, children who have no desire or will to fight back against them. These children who experience severe bullying not only face a cruel social hierarchy in public, but are now being attacked on all manner of online media in the comfort of their own home. The internet allows for anonymity and has created a brutal breeding ground for cyberbullies to attack anyone they choose. With the growing reliance and use of technology around the world, cyberbullying is becoming a bigger problem than ever. The physical abuse that occurred in the hallways and on the playgrounds no longer exists. Time has transformed bullying into a twenty-four-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week phenomenon. The pain these children suffer, due to online bullying, is not something you can put an ice pack on. What affects them is psychological pain. The agony these children endure is just as real and may be even more heartbreaking to endure. As cyberbullying is becoming a far-reaching problem for children, there needs to be a solution. Adults, educators, legislators and even children must prevent this kind of... middle of paper... they must understand that sometimes someone with more power than them should help address the problem. By educating children to resist cyberbullying, they can help prevent it themselves. In conclusion, cyberbullying is a problem that is growing exponentially with the expansion of today's technology. To stop the hate directed at children through the Internet, preventative strategies need to be put in place. Too many children are mentally and emotionally worn down by anonymous bullying on social media, text messages and email messages. Ignoring this problem we cannot continue. There are so many promising preventative avenues to take when dealing with cyberbullying. It is necessary for more and more people to be educated and aware of the prevention methods available to them, because the variety of prevention methods is infinite.
