Short Story Analysis "The Story of the Hour" by Kate Chopin portrays an opposite perspective of marriage by presenting the reader with a woman who is not troubled by her husband's death. The protagonist, Mrs. Louise Mallard, encounters a sense of freedom rather than grief after learning of her husband's death. After learning that her husband, Brently, is still alive, it caused her to have a heart attack and death. Even though “The Story of the Hour” was published in the 19th century, the story's view of marriage may also coincide with this era. Louise is trapped in her marriage. The lines of his face "tailor-made repression" (paragraph 8). When Luisa recognizes that her husband is dead, she knows that "no powerful will will bend her" (paragraph 14). There will be no husband who believes he has the "right to impose a private will on his fellow man" (paragraph 14). Louise knows that her husband loved her. Brently had always looked at Louise with love (paragraph 13). This tells the reader that Brently is not a horrible father...
