Video Games and Related TypesHuman beings have used entertainment as a way to escape reality for a long time. A new form of entertainment has recently been introduced. Video games are this new entertainment, and they are made so that everyone who plays them can have fun. The very first video game was a game called "Tennis For Two", released in 1958 (Time, 1). It was a game that today would be considered related to “Pong,” but that would come later. The way it was played was two people sat behind a screen and faced each other in a virtual tennis match. The next major step in video games was when "Pong" was released in 1975 for home TV (Time, 3), by Atari Incorporated as a way to get their name into the video game industry. Upon release, it was very popular because "Pong" is one of a kind. Atari once again shook up the gaming world when it released its "Atari 2600" (Time, 4). It was the world's first popular video game console, meaning you could play several video games on one system and you only had to pay for the console and the games once, which meant you could keep playing again and again. The next console proper was the "Nintendo Entertainment System", or "NES", which was released to the public in 1985, subsequently becoming a best-selling system in no time (Time, 6). Many of today's most popular franchises were born on the “NES”, such as Super Mario Brothers, Metroid and The Legend of Zelda. A few years after the release of the "NES", Nintendo Entertainment released the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or "SNES" (Time, 9). It was another big hit, selling even better than its predecessor, sporting more advanced graphics, sequels to popular franchises, and Spaw... middle of paper... too. They develop the code for everything in the game; from the way water flows in a river to how someone walks, to how non-player characters interact with the player. They can also program the game engine to help the game designer make game images. Designers are the people widely associated with making video games. They are the ones who create the models for the characters, create the levels, and sometimes even help create the stories. Most developers were designers before they became developers. Video games are not just something that only children play for fun. There's something out there for everyone to play with. It has also created jobs for people and generates a lot of money and shows no signs of letting up. Video games are now just as common and well-known a source of entertainment as movies, if not even bigger.
