This research paper will cover fuel pumps for diesel applications. Fuel pumps are a very important part of the diesel industry. fuel pumps create pressure to inject fuel into the cylinder. powers the injectors. Pressure is needed for the injectors to atomize the fuel in the cylinder so that compression can ignite it. How it works, there is a wheel inside the fuel pump that spins like a rotary engine. compresses the fuel into a smaller hole which pressurizes it. pressurized fuel fills the lines going to the injectors.the fuel pump. if you are low on fuel and the pump lets in air, the engine will stall and not start. this can cause the fuel pump to shut off if you keep trying to start it with air in the lines. Last year a guy came into our lab and said he was driving down a hill and his truck died. no one knew what was wrong with his truck. After much hesitation we came to the conclusion that his fuel pump had broken. We broke the fuel line to see if any fuel would come out and it would hiss and spit out air. when we put the line back on it, ...
