Teaching in the 21st Century Technological advances since the Internet age have created new teaching styles to practice. Traditionally, students would sit at their desks and be lectured on the topic and then tested on their knowledge at the end of each unit. For some students, this learning style suited their needs as they could reproduce the answers to the questions. For others, this became a barrier in their ability to learn as they needed a different approach to retaining information. With emerging global markets, new demands on employees in the workplace, teaching styles and philosophies adapted to better prepare students for college and career. Therefore, forward-thinking educators have begun using the project-based learning model to acquire various skills that students will need after graduating from high school. Project-based learning involves students taking real-world situations, categorizing them, finding the challenge, and creating the solution, to gain better knowledge of the topic (The George Lucas Educational Foundation, 2014). Therefore, this style of teaching and learning can be applied to all subjects within a school curriculum.
