“Give me fuel, give me fire, give me what I desire”, if you don't know where this famous lyric comes from, the band Metallica would be the answer. Metallica is a lethal, energetic, up tempo metal band that has been around since October 1, 1981. Guitar screeching, double bass drum pedal, deep bass rumbles and a recognizable voice, Metallica is the one band where no band could do it better. Metallica started slowly, overcame some obstacles and continues to play country to country to this day. Metallica started with drummer Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield. Lars had told James that "I have a track saved for my band on Brian Slagel's new Metal Blade label". No one would ever know that those words would make a band the seventh best-selling band in American history. it was for a short time that those two were the only ones in the band. Lars played the drum tracks and handled the music while James played rhythm, lead and bass guitar along with the lyrics. Soon after Hetfield spoke to his roommate, Ron McGovney, who took over the bass role. Additionally, Dave Mustaine took over as Metallica's new lead guitarist. The name Metallica was suggested by a friend in the Bay Area and soon after, Metallica began playing concerts around Los Angeles. , California, Metallica became quite popular as the band began opening for bands like Saxon. The band made a demo tape, No life Til Leather, which quickly reached new fans in San Francisco and New York the huge name of the most iconic band, Metallica. Metallica soon came out in the country and began touring in San Francisco. Everyone began to notice Metallica as more than a garage band but a... medium of paper... influenced by Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden and even Jimi Hendrix. Coming from a simple garage and with a sold out audience, Metallica will be the one everyone looks to when they start the band. Metallica started from nothing and became the most unpredictable, unique and recognizable band today. In my eyes Metallica will always sit on the throne of the Metal world. Kirk Hammett's memorized solos will always be played on my air guitar. Hetfield's lyrics will forever resonate in my head. Bassist Rob, Cliff and Jason will be on my mind when I play guitar to help me keep the beat. Also, while sitting in class in my chair, Lars Ulrich's signature double bass pedal will be played by my feet. Next time someone is on the radio and hears the words "EXIT LIGHT, ENTER LIGHT", turn the volume all the way up and play like there's no tomorrow.
