The shocking truths about domestic violence are evident in every town, city, state and nation! Furthermore, it is a criminal offense that does not discriminate based on color, creed, gender or socioeconomic status! Marcy knew all too well the horrible dangers of this crime. Indeed, domestic violence has led Marcy to go through her own private hell and learn life's difficult lessons, including those that no one reveals. At the age of nineteen, her first true love, Barry, promised to marry her with the hope of starting a family. Barry was charming, romantic and completely devoted to Marcy! He was apparently the perfect man, the man of her dreams, and the man who evolved into a monster. Marcy was criminally beaten and mentally destroyed! Furthermore, Marcy is one of the millions of people who are victims of these devastating and horrendous acts of violence. Initially, the relationship was solid. The transition from love to fear and isolation was gradual and not visible to my untrained average eye. Barry became obsessed with every movement, word uttered, and broke a time limit on every task. My friend and family's involvement seemed to be a thing of the past, due to his demand for attention. It consumed my every breath. It was the sixth month of our relationship when he hit me for the first time. He was so upset that he cried and promised it would never happen again.
