Katy Perry has something to say to the more than 70% of young Americans suffering from the effects of low self-esteem: “Believe in yourself and you can be anything” (Katy Perry: Part Of Me). It does so through uplifting music and videos aimed precisely at the population most affected by serious feelings of inadequacy, doubt and inferiority. Acceptance issues are not a new problem in our society; in fact, they are growing at an alarming rate that is not limited to one gender or the other. Disillusioned by the inability of their parents, teachers, and even their peers to relate to and guide them through these issues, many teenagers turn to music and artists for understanding and guidance; consequently problems can become more evident if the right message is not heard. That's no problem with Katy's music, which is full of inspirational messages, upbeat pop beats, and more than a little pep; as a result, it's the perfect channel to give anyone's self-esteem a boost. His song, “Firework,” aspires to uplift listeners and inspire them to see the uniqueness inherent in each individual. It's accompanied by a really thoughtful video that follows the song and provides moving examples of the message. Everyone agrees that many young people experience problems related to low self-esteem; therefore, “Fireworks” is a fantastic resource for struggling individuals because it provides a supportive understanding of their problems along with guidance in achieving self-acceptance and confidence; moreover, it gives the audience the strength to believe in themselves and show the world their inner beauty. Many studies have been conducted on the importance of self-esteem in children and young adults... middle of paper... ... much brighter for the next generation and inspire them to carry the message forward to their children.
