Studying a degree is one of the greatest achievements of many people around the world. But, according to Mark Edmunson, a diploma in America does not necessarily mean studying and working hard. Getting a college degree in the United States involves dealing with external factors that run counter to the true purpose of education. The welcome speech that most of us hear when starting college is the opening joke used by the author to assert that the American education system is not converging into a well-structured society. Recounting events in a sarcastic manner is the tone in which the author explains many of his arguments. Mark Edmunson uses emotional appeals to deliver an essay to people who have attended college at any point in their lives or to those who have been involved in the American education system. The beginning of the essay “WELCOME AND CONGRATULATIONS” is the main sign that Edmunson's statement has a kairos because it is a sentence to begin in the context reported by the author and his composition. But the author also gains credibility when he shares his university experiences as a student and as a professor. This means that the evidence shown in the document is primary sources narrated from the mouth of someone involved in the American education system. From my point of view, the question "Who are you and what are you doing here?" The essay innovates the style to describe and analyze events that many people have experienced at any time in their lives. While reading this essay I found points of agreement and disagreement with the author's opinion. In the following paragraphs I will explain my perception of this composition. First, I liked the way the author uses his experiences to relate... to the center of the paper... the education system, he does not report anything on how the advantages of this system can outweigh the defects highlighted in the article. In conclusion, although I partially disagree with some aspects of the article, it was with great pleasure I read it because I found the way in which the author relates education to many innovative features of American culture. Furthermore, the way in which the author relates his life memories to the weakness of the field in which he works is impressive. The events that most of us have experienced have been transformed into strong arguments by the author. Education has been one of the pillars of modern countries. Therefore, Mark Edmuson's message should be taken as a basis for future educational strategies. The way he expresses his thoughts shows a great desire to see an education system evolve in step with the well-being of society.
