What is jailbreak? Jailbreaking is something that happens when the owner of an "idevice" hacks the software. The term "idevice" is short for iPod, iPad, iPhone because instead of repeating each item over and over, this term is easy to remember and saves time when talking about technology. I believe people should decide to jailbreak their ide device because it can give more value by not following Apple's rules, its legal features and other features. The company called Apple may seem nice to an average person, but to a jailbreaker it ruins freedom. Jailbreakers are people who use software to hack their device because people like me like to believe in freedom for our device. Apple is a company run by Tim Cooks, he and his employees like to release technology products such as from their famous iPods to their iPhone with updates that benefit non-tech people. This is because people who have not tried to jailbreak their IDE device cannot see a similarity between a feature added by Cydia and a similar one by Apple. Apple company is not happy with people who jailbreak their ide device because for them it is called unauthorized modification which is true because they don't know what a person does but this ruins the belief of the liberated device. Many people believe that jailbreaking an ide device is illegal, but thanks to an act it is legal to jailbreak it. When people hear the word jailbreak, the first question they ask is “is it legal?” because if it were illegal, not many people would do it. The answer to this question is yes, it is legal because it is protected by the Digital Millennium copyright act (DMCA) due to an exemption added in October 2012. According to Condliffe's article "Jailbreaking is now legal for smartphones, but not for tablets" the following has been added as an exemption from the DMCA; "computer programs that enable wireless phones to run lawfully obtained software applications, where the circumvention is carried out for the sole purpose of enabling such applications to be interoperable with computer programs on the phone" which means that third-party software like Cydia is allowed to install and set aside from legal software with the purpose of being used inside a phone. To explain the additional exemption is that as long as jailbreaking software like Cydia or any other identical app does not interfere with the functioning of legal apps like the app store, any person has the legal power to jailbreak their own device or a other person with their permission.
