Topic > The Afghan Cultural Marriage - 1957

Marriage is a ritual that takes place to form a formal union between a man and a woman to create a family. In Afghanistan, it is believed that marriages are performed by almighty Allah and that it is a bond and promise not only between two people but also between two families of different backgrounds. Therefore, since Afghanistan is a conservative society built on traditional and Islamic principles, marriage is considered the only acceptable way for a man and a woman to form a lifelong bond and relationship. Afghan cultural wedding has its own practices and rituals which make it completely different and although attractive to outsiders. For example, in the West, a wedding ceremony includes engagement, wedding ceremony and reception including the cutting of the cake and the first dance of a man and a woman as husband and wife, which is very different from Afghan weddings. This article, therefore, explains the traditional Afghan wedding which includes a number of occasions such as engagement or Shereni Khori, Takht-e Henna, Nikah and Takht Jami.II. Engagement or Shereni Khori: Shereni Khori or Dismaal is the first step to celebrate the new kinship between families. The bride's family hosts the groom's family by serving the meal and later the senior members of the groom's family, including his father and other members of his family, discuss the arrangement with the bride's family. They present gifts and money to the bride's family and after discussing and serving the meal, one of the respected senior members of the groom's family explains the purpose of the meeting and asks for kinship between the families (Kite Runner 2nd, 2012). If the girl's family members agree, then the two families discuss... in the middle of the paper... it is the main and at the same time crucial part of their tradition. The groom's family requests many items including jewelry, household items, and so on, and failure to comply with their request sometimes leads to divorce or domestic violence.VII. Conclusion: Traditional Afghan weddings are very different from other weddings of other cultures around the world. Despite its unique characteristics, it also shares some traits with weddings from the region such as India and Pakistan. A marriage is not only a lifelong bond and relationship between a man and a woman, but it is also a relationship between two different families with different backgrounds, cultures and even regions. As a result, the different rituals of Afghan weddings are very unique and are often performed to show off and demonstrate social prestige, status and power..
