Feminism has impacted American society. Some of the benefits include restructured views on careers, education, and the privileges women gain. The women's movement was the major triumphant movement of the 1960s and 1970s (Epstein 125). However, without the victory of the movement, nothing would be like today. In conclusion, women today see themselves differently than they did thirty years ago (Epstein 125). For example, women are pursuing endless career options that they would have been deprived of in the past. For example, in 2008, Governor Sarah Palin was Senator John McCain's vice presidential candidate (Baxter paragraph 1). Because of the women's movement, women like Sarah Palin strive to make the most of it. Perhaps one day in the future, the president could be a woman. Women make up 41% of active duty military forces (Velasquez 7). Without that 14% the military could be outnumbered. Women have worked their way up to being able to protect their county in an advantageous way. On the other hand, across the country more and more women are applying for places in medical schools (Chambers, paragraph 1). Any career can be owned by women nowadays. In other words, the movement gave men and women the ability to follow their own career preferences. Without the women's movement, women would have been deprived of a prosperous future in a fascinating profession of their choice. Furthermore, over the years women have made progress in their educational studies. For example, women currently make up 57% of all college students (Marklein paragraph 2). This proves that women are capable of succeeding and achieving more than men. As a result, women have gained the freedom to aspire to a college degree and to be independent. Almost one in four women has a university degree, compared to one in seven men (Hechinger par. 2). Women have come a long way from not being able to even attempt to work for an education. Without working women, America would have difficulty advancing and keeping up with job demands. Additionally, women represent 46% of the total U.S. workforce (Perkins 1). This is a testimony that women are no longer discriminated against in any aspect of life..
