Three days of trekking around the beautiful hills and valleys of this village, drenched by the fury of the Cherrapunjee rain, remember why this land is known as the wettest place on earth. And if it wasn't for the good company of my best friend, I wouldn't have been able to experience the panoramic beauty of the deep gorges and thunderous yet amazing waterfalls of Cherrapunjee. First the facts  To reach Cherrapunjee or Sohra as it is known locally, you need to first take a flight to Shillong, the capital of Meghalya, located in the north-eastern part of India to reach this part of the world. For tourists, the best time to visit all outdoor and adventure activities would be in the winter season between the month of November and February. At 486.9 feet above sea level, it receives rainfall for eight months between March and October, of which 50% is between June and July. From November to February the climate is completely dry. During the period between 1973 and 2012 (40 years), the average rainfall in Cherrapunjee was 11,859.4 mm or 39.90 feet or 466.90 inches. It's almost a 4 story tall building. The Fun Part Our heart was destined to travel in the month of June to witness and experience the rain gods at their best. However, detractors advised us against it and wanted us to travel during winters like everyone else. What to eat The local cuisine of any place on this planet should be experienced. Then devour pork and rice along with the famous Sohra Pulao (vegetable rice). What you have to doTREK!! TREKKING!!
