Topic > Inhuman Acts in the Night by Elie Wiesel - 710

According to the definition, inhuman is described as an individual who lacks compassion for misery or suffering. The novel Night by author Elie Wiesel, illustrates some aspects of inhumanity throughout the book. It is evident in the novel that when given full power to operate without restriction, the person in power becomes inhuman. There are many examples of inhumanity in this novel. For example: "I will never forget that smoke. I will never forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw transform into wreaths of smoke under a silent blue sky." Through this quote Elie explains his first night at the camp and what he saw will remain in his head forever: unforgettable. In my opinion, the part of the novel where the Germans throw children into the fireplace is very inhumane. An individual does not have to have sympathy or feelings to take such a disturbing action. Beyond that "For more than half an hour we stood there, struggling between life and death, dying in slow agony before our eyes. And we had to look him in the face. He was still alive when I passed him. His tongue she was still red, her eyes weren't glassy yet." This is also a very inhumane example as the child's weight was not enough to break his neck when he was hung and so he is slowly dying a painful death as all the Jews walk past him, forced to watch the cruelty. The main theme that was exhibited throughout the novel was inhumanity. The quote "I will never forget that smoke. I will never forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw transform into wreaths of smoke under a silent blue sky." This quote demonstrates how a powerful authority had all the control to carry out disruptive actions and no common means...... middle of paper...... aware of the German's position of power. In conclusion, in the novel The Night, the Germans had so much strength and power that no minority (the Jews) could stop them. As a result, the Germans took advantage of the power they had and killed many Jews in very unpleasant ways, thus demonstrating inhumanity. The Germans had no feelings or sympathy for their actions and through the two quotes provided it is evident how Jewish society lived in fear and helplessness. Elie will never forget what he saw the first night he was in the camp and that was the accumulation of fear, also the way the Germans executed the child shows that they are heartless in making the innocent suffer. These examples were very brutal and inhumane ways of treating the Jews, as a result the Germans took advantage of their power in the wrong way, they abused it by doing what they wanted..
