The impact of terrorism Terrorism has and is changing the world. The US government describes terrorism as “premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against non-combatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents” (Gupta12). The implications of terrorism go beyond victims. Terrorism has evolved dramatically; the consequences of these unjustifiable acts of terrorism have and continue to have a great impact on our daily lives. A single act of terror can instill fear and sadness in an entire country. Dipak K. Gupta, in his book Who Are the Terrorists? (2006), illustrates what terrorism is and its origins, as well as arguing what an act of terror is. Dipak states that the term terrorism has always had a negative connotation and that the word terrorism originates from the French Revolution during the “Reign of Terror”. During this period guilt was used to kill large numbers of people who for the most part had done no wrong. These horrific acts were purposely used to instill terror and fear in people, hence the term terrorism. Gupta's purpose is to inform the reader about what terrorism is and what qualifies as an act of terror (5). The old forms of terrorism, arrows, daggers and gunpowder are long gone. Terrorism has reached new heights with weapons that can kill the masses. This is a scary thought and should not be taken lightly. We have developed many ways to kill each other and have become ironically good at it. Brenda 2 The topic of terrorism is not the most pleasant one even if it is talked about a lot. In the conversations of people, the media and the government, terrorism is talked about everywhere and with everyone. The mind of a terrorist is something... at the center of the card... tension. Killing innocents is inhumane and unjustifiable and that is terrorism. The impact of terrorism is undeniable. It impacted people's lives even if they were not directly affected by the terrorist act. As we continue to look for ways to counter and combat terrorism, we should not target people for their appearance or beliefs. The repercussions of terrorism are still being felt today and while some may not like these impacts, they are there for safety and try to protect us so that we can live a life without the fear that terrorism brings..
